第一サムエル記のテーマは「判断」です。

サムエル記は預言者サムエルの母ハンナの話からはじまります。イスラエル人たちは自分たちの王を欲しがりサウル王が誕生します。当時、イスラエルはペリシテ人と戦争をしていて、少年ダビデが巨人ゴリアテに勝利しました。そして、サウル王の息子ヨナタンと親友になります。しかし、悪に支配されたサウル王にダビデは命を狙われていました。

サウルは背が高く、ハンサムでお金持ちでした。しかし、彼は信仰が弱いために醜くなり、人に命令は出来ても尊敬される人物ではありませんでした。一方、ダビデは神に忠実な人でした。

サウルは毒麦として神に刈り取られたでしょうか。聖書は、私たち自身がサウルであり、毒麦だと言っています。今の社会には良い麦と共に毒麦が混ざっています。私たちは良いことをしたり、悪いことをしたりします。油断すると、悪に染まります。刈り取られないように、その時々に判断が必要なのです。
